Last week we began by talking about different types of weather and thinking about wind. We made wind flags to practice taking measurements of wind speed (no wind, some wind, strong wind).
This week we continued our conversation about wind by making weather vanes. Our class engineered the weather vanes with everyday objects you could find around the house (cardboard, straws, pencils, paper, clay).
Sometimes as an engineer your first design doesn't work and you have to rebuild after testing. This is what we did today! We used a fan to simulate wind and tested our weather vanes. If they didn't work quite right, students made a change and tested until theirs passed the wind test!
Are you a weather expert or know someone who is? Let us know-- we would love to have you as a guest!
