How volunteering works

I hope that you all find a way to help out at our school this year! The kids LOVE having visitors to show off their hard work throughout the school year. If you are able to make the commitment to volunteer regularly in the classroom, fabulous!

We will be using volunteer spot to organize our volunteers. There are various ways to volunteer in our classroom, so you can choose what you are most comfortable doing. Ways to help in the classroom include working directly with students (literacy centers, science projects, etc.), helping prepare for upcoming projects (cutting or copying materials), stuffing go-home folders, etc.

To volunteer at STEM K-8 you must complete a background check, which is required by Seattle Public Schools for all volunteers who have any contact with children. Cindy Baca or Patti Bunting, our fabulous office staff, can help you fill out this paperwork.

In addition to regularly scheduled classroom volunteers, there will be several other ways for volunteers to help out. You can sign up for a single time slot, volunteer for one of the classroom parent jobs (see list below), chaperone a field trip, attend a school celebration or assembly, teach us about a special talent or skill you want to share, etc. If you can't get to our campus, you can visit the work we are doing on our classroom b log and make comments from your home.

Parent Classroom Jobs

We need volunteers for the following position:
  • Room parent coordinator (helps with any communication between parents and teacher)
*Our room parent this year will be Sarah Collier, Gregory's mom! Thanks Sarah!*
  • Volunteer coordinator (helps keep the volunteer spot up and running)
  • Auction Liaison (coordinate a class art project for the school auction)

If you have any interest in taking any of these on, please let me know. In the past, I have had a single room parent and co-room parents that took on all of the above jobs. Thank you all in advance for all of your support in our kindergarten classroom. You are priceless resources to our everyday happenings!
